My Thoughts On My Profession

Jobs. I like working, I do. Going out and being a useful member of society, making money all the while, is not something I dislike. With that said, however, I do not particularly enjoy my job. At the time of writing this, I currently work as a lifeguard at a small private pool no more than a mile from my house. I literally only have to drive three minutes maximum to get there. It’s not difficult work, since it consists mainly of sitting and conducting basic pool maintenance. The only real downside is having to sit and conduct basic pool maintenance in the heat. You’d think this would be a wonderful job, right?
I do not like working at this pool. I did at one point, but that point has passed and it’s been in the proverbial rear-view mirror for a while. Nowadays it’s just a drag. I dread every shift I show up to, and I’m always mentally exhausted at the end, even if nothing happens. There’s nothing to really do there aside from sit and conduct basic pool maintenance, and even if you were content to sit the entire time, the chairs aren’t exactly built for human comfort. Some otherworldly creature must have designed them, because clearly, our species wasn’t meant to find them enjoyable to sit in after ten minutes. The people there are fine. My co-workers are fine. There are a few of them that I like to be around, but it’s offset by having to be at that pool at the same time. There’s nothing particularly terrible about the job, I’ve just grown to dislike it.
Luckily, I won’t have to be working there much longer. We close in two weeks, give or take, and I do not plan on working there again next summer. I’d rather find a job that pays better and generally is better. Now, imagine I put some witty comment at the end here as a good way to close out this entry of the blog. Thanks, and goodbye.
