My Thoughts On Modern Music

    Before anyone gets angry, let me preface this by saying that this is solely my opinion. You're free to disagree and dislike it, but this is just how I feel about this. I think that most modern music is bad. Let me also clarify that I'm more specifically talking about mainstream music. Y'know, stuff you'd hear on the radio or in the "Top Sixty-Two Greatest Hits" playlist. To me, it seems like the creation and art of music has lost a lot of the charm and heart that it used to have.
    Older music, such as things from the later last century, just feels like it has a lot more soul put into it. The people writing the music really put their being into what they were making. Nowadays it feels like a lot of popular artists make music just to make money off of it or to please their fans. Creativity has felt lacking in the music department recently. I don't think I'm really nostalgic for older music, considering I wasn't alive in the time where the music I'd be nostalgic for was relevant. It could be that I just dislike the more popular genres of modern times. Who knows. What I do know for sure is that I haven't heard many mainstream songs from the past decade that I've actually liked. I'll stop rambling now. My Thoughts On Select Language Discrepancies

    Hi. This is a bit of a weird one today, but the thought popped into my head, and I had to talk about it. The English language is odd. There's a lot of things that are left over from other languages that it's borrowed from over time that don't really fit in to the modern, refined rules that English is ordinarily supposed to follow. The "'I' before 'E'" rule, for example, is rarely followed by a lot of words we use. There are enough of these discrepancies to probably write an entire book on, but I just wanted to talk about some that I've noticed myself.

    First of all, pickles. To make pickles, you pickle them. (Wow, unexpected.) My question is why pickles are the only thing directly named after the process. Why aren't they called "pickled cucumbers?" Everything else that gets pickled is just a pickled version of the item, like "pickled peppers" or "pickled egg." There's probably a good reason for it, but I think it's just inconsistent and it bothers me.

    Next up, there are a lot of words that, when used in a more slang-y context, mean the same thing when they realistically shouldn't. For example, being "up for something" and being "down for something" mean the same thing, despite having polar opposite terms. Do you see where I'm coming from? Something that "sucks" and something that "blows" both are generally unappealing, despite the terms, again, being opposite. Anyways, that's finally off my chest. See you next time.

My Thoughts On My Posture

    I have weird posture. I can't say it's good, that would be lying. I can't really say it's bad, though, because it doesn't seem to me like it is bad. It seems to me like it's weird. Whenever I sit down for any extended period of time, I gradually curl up into this weird half fetal position. I always tend to shift my weight to one side whenever I'm standing, too. That's just scratching the surface. I can never really find myself comfortable in the average sitting or standing position, and I really wouldn't be able to tell you why, because I have no idea why. It's just more comfy to sit or stand all weird.
    Whatever the case of why I have funny posture is, the fact remains that I have funny posture. I really hope that the quirky positions that I prefer to put myself in won't negatively effect my physical health later on, because having to be in normal positions really messes me up. Sure, it might be healthy physically, but I feel like it's more of a detriment mentally. Maybe there's just some crossed wire in my brain that just wants me to be in a weird position all the time. My Thoughts On The Modern Video Game Market

    Video games are some of the most popular media of this generation. It makes sense that the companies that make and produce them should be making some fat stacks of cash. To me, though, it sometimes feels like they try a little too hard to squeeze out as much money from their consumers than they need to. If I am going to pay for a full-price game (usually around $60-$70), then I don't really think it's necessary to add MORE things to pay for after the fact that I have already paid.
    Now, it makes sense that some smaller development teams would charge some extra money here and there. After all, their entire livelihood may depend on this gamble of whether or not they'll sell their game and make profit. I get that. However, when you have companies that already make several million dollars annually, what's the point of putting microtransactions and cash grabs in? Don't you already make enough just from sales of the game alone? Wouldn't you maybe attract a bigger audience if you made a lack of extra payments a selling point? I'd definitely buy a game like that. Then again, I'd buy the game with the extra payments too... whatever. This has been me rambling about something that isn't really a big issue in most cases. My Thoughts On Nuclear Power

    Hi again. Two posts on the same day, wow. This is a bit of a weird topic, but after writing a post about an article concerning it for my English class, it reminded me how passionate I am about it. I really like nuclear power. The concept of it and its overall utility is entirely intriguing to me, and I think it's frankly quite sad that there aren't many people who know a lot about it. I don't really care how people see it (ideally you are in favor of it) as long as they just know the facts about it. There's a lot of misinformation spread about nuclear power that scares people away from researching it further.
    Personally, I'm under the impression that the entire world should be switching over to being primarily nuclear-powered. I don't want to argue with anyone, though, so that's just going to stay as my humble opinion. I think it's a bit more objective to say that the processes that nuclear reactors use are really darn cool, though. The general idea is that you use nuclear fission (look it up if you aren't familiar with it, dear reader, because that's a lot to explain, and I don't have the time) to make heat so you can boil water. That's it. The steam from the boiling spins big turbines, and boom, energy. Isn't that neato? I could ramble for several hours about nuclear power, but I'll save you the trouble and let this just perhaps be something that may spark an interest in researching it further. My Thoughts On My Shopping Trip

    Thrift stores are always a fun experience. It's like normal shopping, but with a lot more interesting things to shop for. Instead of boring, mass-produced products lining the shelves, you get fragments of what used to be parts of people's lives that they felt were no longer necessary. With that said, boy, is there some funny stuff that thrift stores come in possession of. I understand why people get rid of a lot of the things that are present, but it only really brings me to question why those people even had those items in the first place.
    I recently (at the time of writing this) went on a thrift shopping trip with a group of my friends. We didn't actually buy much because most of our time was spent sifting through the clothing racks. If you didn't know, the shirts racks in thrift stores are always packed with the absolute weirdest stuff. Whenever I go to any thrift store anywhere, the shirt racks are always my primary destination. My friends and I left the store with a nice armful of the weirdest, most random shirts and clothing we could find. I managed to get myself one of those high-visibility vests that construction workers wear. I think it's really funny to just own one for no good reason. I love thrift shopping, especially with other people to share the experience with. That's all for today. See you next time.

My Thoughts On Procrastination

    Procrastination. We've all done it, we all do it, it's basically a part of life. Putting off something that you know you have to do in favor of doing in later is more or less common sense. It's something that I, specifically, do way too much. I'm sort of a procrastination professional. It's true because it alliterates. Jokes aside, though, I really, really procrastinate too much. By nature, I'm sort of a lazy person. I don't like to do much, and if given the choice, I will not do much. When it comes to doing work or not doing work, I tend to choose the latter. Unfortunately for me, the work often times has to be done at some point. Throughout the course of however much time I have to do said work, I will continue to bargain with myself about "great" reasons why I should not, in fact, do the work now, and instead wait to do it later.
    It's not like I'm actively trying to put off things that I have to do. It's just that it's become so natural that I do it without thinking. Before it even registers to me that there's work that needs to be done, I've already thought of a happy handful of excuses as to why I shouldn't be doing any work right now, and when I can just do it later. Believe me, I'd really like to get out of this mindset. It really is not helpful to my work ethic. Since I started college, I've been getting better at it, but I still have to actively remind myself constantly that there is work to be done, and that I need to do it sooner rather than later. Hopefully, I'll get rid of my PhD in procrastination soon. I don't want it anymore. That's it for today. Until next time.
